Don't just visit New Zealand. Live here for a while.
Worldschooling, designed around your family, by someone who lives here.
The idea is simple. The decisions aren't.
You want your family to slow down, learn through place and community, and experience everyday life somewhere different.
Then the questions begin. Where should we live? What will our children's learning look like? How do we find the right home, transport and local connections from the other side of the world?
You could spend months researching it yourself. You could try to find a programme designed for many families at once. Or you can have an experience built around your own needs from the beginning.
Why New Zealand?
Nature that teaches. Separated from the rest of the world for millions of years, New Zealand evolved species found nowhere else, and children here see conservation at work, not just in a textbook. Many of the country's finest natural experiences are also conservation-funded, so your time here helps protect what you came to see.
A living culture. Te Ao Māori is spoken, practised and shared with those who arrive with curiosity and respect. Alongside it sit Pacific, Asian and European influences, so families meet not one culture but many, and that breadth is an education in itself.
A community that's there if you know where to look. New Zealand offers many ways to learn, from schools and place-based learning communities to home education groups gathering weekly in the bush. The ready-made worldschooling hubs you might expect elsewhere aren’t here in the same way, and the right fit doesn’t always announce itself. With the right introductions, your family’s learning community can become one of the most meaningful parts of your stay.
One country, many possibilities
Designed Around Your Family
Some families settle into one place. Others choose two or three bases and stay long enough in each to feel part of it. I'll usually recommend a slow pace, but how you live here is completely your decision.
We'll work through four key aspects, in whatever order suits you:
Who’s planning
your stay
New Zealand is my homeland, but I know what it means to be a foreigner.
I spent seven years abroad, adapting to different languages, cultures and ways of life. It changed how I see things, and it's why I appreciate the privilege of raising my son here. It's also why I understand how much a worldschooling stay can mean for a family.
We worldschool in our own backyard.
There's so much newness for my son, and I'm still making discoveries myself. That curiosity is what I bring to designing your family's time here.
What that means for you
Because I live here, I can:
Research your options directly
Make genuine local connections
Help you understand the real trade-offs behind each choice
I'm your advocate in planning the experience that will carry the most meaning and memories home. I can't promise outcomes that rest with others (like a school's enrolment decision). What I can promise is that you won't be working through the process alone.
I only work with a small number of families at a time, and I recommend places and experiences because they fit your family, not because of what they offer me.
Kia ora, I’m Sarah.
Good for more than the travellers.
Every journey I design is guided by the Three Thriving Threads:
your family, local communities and nature all thrive together.
That means experiences built on genuine local relationships and chosen, where possible, to regenerate the places you visit.
Raising a curious child
How I raise my son shapes how I design for families.
I want my son to carry a quiet confidence in who he is, a generous heart for others, and the curiosity to find his own answers.
I’m still learning, but in my experience, children settle into new places when they're involved. Let them investigate, make some discoveries themselves, and give them room to contribute. A steady daily rhythm gives stability wherever you are, so a new place becomes somewhere to explore with energy and come home to.
Your First Step
Book a 1:1 NZ Worldschooling Session
Forty-five minutes focused on your family. After you answer a few short questions, we'll talk through what matters most as you plan time in New Zealand, the trade-offs you might not have considered, and how I can support you in creating a meaningful trip.
Afterwards, I'll send a short written summary of what we discussed:
your priorities
the key decisions ahead
suggested next steps
This session is for clarity and direction. Specific recommendations, such as places to stay, schools and providers, form part of the design work that follows if we decide to work together.
If we're a good fit, we'll talk about designing your journey together. If you'd prefer to plan it yourself, you'll leave with a clearer picture of where to start.

How to begin
Questions families ask
-
The earlier the better. Good self-contained accommodation and school places can fill well ahead of time, and more lead time means more options.
-
I'm not an immigration adviser, so I point families to official sources and licensed advisers. I'll help you understand how visa timing fits your plans.
-
Yes. I research options that suit your family's educational approach and make the first introduction to providers on your behalf. The decisions rest with the schools, but I can advocate for you along the way.
If you're following the home education route, there are active communities in many parts of the country, and I can point you toward the ones that fit your family.
-
Your design fee is agreed after our 45-minute session, once we've clarified what your family needs. Every journey is different, so pricing is tailored to the scope of the work.
Depending on what we agree, I can arrange and book accommodation, vehicle hire, schooling introductions and activities for you. The cost of these is separate from my design fee and paid by your family. Flights and travel insurance are arranged by you.
-
Yes. Sessions and planning happen online, so it doesn't matter where you're based. I work with a small number of families at a time, so spaces are limited.
