The Founder

Woven Journeys exists because I believe travel can be a genuine force for good — not as a marketing line, but as something I've seen play out in real communities, real landscapes, and real moments that stay with people long after they return home.

Roots shape everything.

Where it begins

My heritage is mixed — with Fijian roots on my grandmother's side whose stories of island life, community, and a deep relationship with land and ocean never left me. That curiosity about where I come from has taken me to unexpected places — including dancing flamenco in a community in Chiang Mai, far from where that art form began, and feeling completely at home. That's always been how I understand place — not as an outsider passing through, but as someone looking for the thread that connects me to it.

Those stories from my grandmother planted something early — the idea that a place and its people should be honoured, not extracted from. That tourism should leave something behind, not just take. It feels less like a professional philosophy and more like something I carry.

That pull toward the Pacific is something I'm building toward — slowly, carefully, and only when I can offer it with the same depth and integrity I bring to everywhere else.

Returning home changes things.

Why it matters

Coming back to New Zealand — and navigating life as a solo parent — sharpened my sense of what actually matters. I've moved through seasons of challenge and change, and witnessed firsthand how travel can provide perspective, grounding, and joy in the midst of life's complexity. Those experiences taught me that luxury isn't only about indulgence — it's about depth, authenticity, and the moments that stay with you long after you return home.

My approach is rooted in the concept of kaitiakitanga (guardianship) and the Tiaki Promise of my homeland and all other destinations I choose to explore.

Every journey is shaped around three threads — the traveller thrives, the community thrives, nature thrives. When those come together, something happens that goes beyond being a “good holiday”.

Because travel, when woven with intention, doesn't just take you somewhere new — it brings you back to yourself.

In their words

"A quiet moment in Pu Luong at the eco resort — delicious food, a cold beer, our three-year-old making friends from around the world, and a rare opportunity for our family to just be. That was the standout for me.

From there, the cycling in Hoi An was a highlight — the pace was perfect, the variety of activities kept our daughter entertained, and the local guides were lovely and very professional. The communication throughout was fantastic.

What stayed with us most was knowing that the accommodation and providers were all locally owned. It's so easy to worry that tourism isn't having a positive effect on the regions you visit — Sarah's guidance and knowledge put that concern to rest. The local guides gave us real insight into their world, and that connection made everything feel meaningful.

We loved every moment. Such a welcome reset as we transitioned back to life in New Zealand."

"Sarah meticulously planned a two-week adventure-packed itinerary in Chiang Mai, Thailand for nine of my close friends and family... Everything was taken care of, which made the trip seamless and stress-free — exactly what you want on holiday! What we loved most was Sarah’s deep understanding of Thailand, its people and the culture which gave us a truly local and authentic experience. If you get the chance to have Sarah plan a bespoke journey for you, don’t pass it up.”

I work with a small number of clients at any one time — people who travel with intention and want to trust someone who knows the difference between an experience that's been curated for depth and one that's been packaged to look like it.

The first step is a short application. If it feels like a good fit, we'll arrange a conversation from there.

If this resonates, I'd love to hear from you.
